Introduction to Geography

Understanding how people lived in the past is much easier if we understand how their environment affected them. Today, you will learn the basics of geography – the study of land and environments.

Part 1: Consider Your Environment (Answer these questions on your own paper using complete sentences)
1. Imagine your parents are coming to see Mr. Kash to give him gifts for being great. Explain to them in a few sentences the location of this classroom on campus.
2. What are some of the benefits (good things) about the location of this room? (Consider distance to cafeteria, buses or restroom, amount of outside noise, etc.)
3. What are some of the disadvantages (bad things) about the location of this room? (Consider distance to cafeteria, buses or restroom, amount of outside noise, etc.)
4. Think about the way the classroom is set up. Why do you think the desks are arranged the way they are?
5. Why do you think the room is decorated the way it is? What are the advantages and disadvantages to the way the room is decorated?
